| and Kindergarten Too! |
| Making up stories with your child is a fun alternative to reading a traditional telling my daughter two or three sentences of a story. Then, she continues on with her own made up scenario. Once again, it is mine turn, hers again, and so forth. For Example: Parent: “There once was a princess who lived in a castle in a far away land. She was lonely, so she made friends with an interesting animal…” Child: “That animal was a green frog named Freddy….” Parent: “The princess and Freddy would talk for hours and play fun games, like…” Child: “Pin the tail on the donkey, even though it wasn’t someone’s birthday.” Making up stories with your child is a great activity for both preschoolers and kindergarteners because it encourages them to use their imagination. Why This Preschool Activity is Great: It is easy and can be done anywhere. My daughter and I most commonly make up stories before bedtime, but this preschool activity can be done anywhere and anytime. It is a fun activity for long rides in the car too. It encourages your child to think quickly on the spot. What I really like about this type of preschool activity is the on-the-spot thinking. As soon as I am done, my daughter knows it is her turn. She says whatever she can think of as quickly as possible. Honestly, it makes it a million times funnier too because you never really know what she will say. |
